At the very beginning of June, one very important holiday is celebrated – Children´s Day! Come with us to see its history, the most common way to celebrate it and the best tips for gifts.
The roots of this holiday lie in United States of America, where this tradition started in 19th century, and in Turkey that has been celebrating this holiday on April 23 since 1920s. However, International Children´s Day was only declared at the end of 1940s, originally under the name Day for Children´s Protection. However, unfortunately this holiday has also a darker side of its origin, because Day for Children´s Protection was established due to tragic events of the WWII that happened in Lidice and in French village of Oraduor.
In 1950s, Day for Children´s Protection became Children´s Day. Not everywhere in the world it is celebrated on June 1, but there are states, where this holiday is celebrated twice a year.
Celebration of Children´s Day
In Czechoslovakia, Children´s Day started to be celebrated in 1951, before that it was so-called Children´s Joy Week, and celebration of it did not have a fixed date. In that time, Children´s Day celebrations were accompanied by various carnivals, sports competitions or lantern parades.
The essence of current celebration is similar to the tradition that began in our country in 1950s, so various programs and events are prepared for public, where children can have a good time. However, private family celebrations are no exception and they have many forms according to the proverb hundred people, hundred tastes.
Gift for Children´s Day
However, the common feature for most of families is to give their children some small gift. Although it means something different for everyone, but the most frequent gifts include sweets or some smaller toys, e.g. cars or plush toys.
But we think that it is worth to invest into our small kids – the right toy is very important. Our wooden kits may be an unusually generous gift for Children´s Day, but we believe that they are the most appropriate, because they support natural playfulness and imagination.
